Meet the Founder

The Jot Spot was founded by Robyn Chiswell, an experienced educator and passionate advocate for creative, meaningful learning.

After teaching in inner-city London primary schools for ten years, Robyn saw firsthand how every child learns differently — and how traditional education often struggles to nurture that individuality. As an English Lead, she designed whole-school curriculums centred around children’s needs, using high-quality picture books to make reading and writing accessible for all learners.

Her teaching philosophy has always been rooted in purpose and connection. Whether her students were writing letters to Parliament about local issues, speaking to refugees over a video call to inspire empathy-driven writing, or collaborating with the BBC on projects to “rewild” their local area — Robyn made writing real.

Her MA in Children’s Literature deepened her understanding of how representation in stories shapes how children see themselves and their place in the world. The belief — that every child’s voice matters — continues to drive everything she creates.

Robyn’s experience also extends beyond the classroom. As a SATs marker and writing moderator for her local authority, she developed a deep understanding of how children’s writing is assessed — and how assessment can either empower or discourage young writers. Later, she worked with a community interest company that provided mental health and wellbeing training for educators, where she facilitated and wrote higher education courses.

In her classroom, Robyn championed flexible, child-led learning environments: standing desks, beanbags, and even introducing a therapy dog to support wellbeing. But over time, she began to question the rigid demands of formal education. Wanting to empower parents who choose a different path, she founded The Jot Spot — a space to help families a space for parents who want to make learning more flexible, joyful, and creative.
